Basics: Standard Setup for Android Home Screens

A uniform standard setup for all android home screens on tablets and phones.  In many cases, it'd be handy to have a common home screen setup that everyone uses.  That way, whether you're using your own device, one shared by the family, a work or a friend's tablet, you have a general idea where to find what you need quickly.

The screens don't have to be setup exactly this way, the idea is to use the home screen as the core center for your most important info, links, apps, widgets and fan out in both directions from greatest to least important.  First, with productivity and vital information and then proceeding to entertainment and the least important items furthest away from the core.

A good app to label your screens if you'd like to is Minimalistic Text on the android market.

For substituting pages,

  • Main rule of thumb is keep office and media what they are, the two left pages are flexible.
  • Music or Geodata can be games, or other.  Combine Music with media and geodata with office.
  • Music or Geodata can also be halfpages, (esp. tablets), to keep it consistent place productivity, news and work themed pages closer to the middle home screen and the entertainment, fun and game themed pages further away.
If you like this article pass it along to your friends and maybe it'll catch on as a standard way for everyone to setup their device making access to the most common tasks a breeze for yourself and whoever else uses  your device.

I'd appreciate comments on this.  Do you have a better idea?  Do know of a site that already did something like this?  Pass it along.  If I like it I'll update this article.
